What's inside

Four tabs, one small habit.

ilmi is Arabic for "my knowledge".

Learn

Twelve levels of short lessons that teach, then check, with questions to tap, order and match. Each level ends in a challenge that opens the next.

Quran

All 114 surahs in Arabic with an English translation, verse by verse, with notes on what each surah covers. Listen verse by verse and follow along.

Prayer

The five prayer times for where you are, a qibla compass, and optional alerts as each prayer comes in. Tick each one off as you pray.

Medina

Points from learning and praying build a small historical city, level by level through ten ages.

Widgets

Six Home Screen widgets, three of them also for the Lock Screen: next prayer, your streak, verse of the day, dua of the day, what's up next, and your Medina.

For every age

You choose an age range when you start, from under 10 to adult, and the lessons adjust to it.

Privacy

No account. No ads. No tracking.

ilmi never asks for your name or email. Here is the little that leaves your iPhone, and why.

  • Your progress is stored on your iPhone. Lessons, streak, reading position, prayers and your Medina are never sent to us.
  • Location is optional. If you turn on prayer times, your location is rounded to about a kilometre and sent to aladhan.com to work out the times. Nothing else goes with it.
  • Audio is downloaded when you listen. Recitation comes from everyayah.com and cdn.islamic.network, and is then kept on your iPhone. Those servers see the request, as any website would.
  • Purchases go through Apple. ilmi Plus is handled by Apple and RevenueCat, which process purchase information under an anonymous ID to manage access. We never see your payment details, and nothing you enter in the app is part of that.
  • Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
Questions

Before you ask.

Who is ilmi for?

Anyone learning about Islam, from under 10 to adults. You pick an age range at the start and the lessons adjust.

Is ilmi free?

The Quran tab and the Prayer tab are free. In lessons, the first series in your plan is free in full, and the first lesson of every other series is free. Medina levels 1 and 2 are free. Everything else needs ilmi Plus, a yearly or monthly subscription through Apple. Prices will be shown on the App Store at launch.

Where does the content come from?

The Quran text is the Tanzil Project's Uthmani text with the Saheeh International translation. Lessons cite the Quran and Sahih al-Bukhari or Sahih Muslim only.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no account or sign-in, and no ads.

Does ilmi need my location?

Only if you want prayer times. It's asked for when you turn them on, used while the app is open, and rounded to about a kilometre.

Does it work offline?

Lessons and the Quran text do. Prayer times are saved for the days ahead once fetched, and recitation you have already heard stays on your iPhone.

Is it on Android or iPad?

Not at the moment. ilmi is iPhone only for now.

When will it launch?

Soon. We haven't set a date.
